New colour palette by Raffaella Mangiarotti and Lapalma (Dezeen)
Summary: Italian brand Lapalma has collaborated with architect and designer Raffaella Mangiarotti on a new kaleidoscopic palette of colourways for its catalogue. The palette, which debuted at Salone del Mobile, is described by Lapalma as a "chromatic alphabet" of 16 distinct shades that can be applied to a spectrum of its products. Existing colours Bianco, Tortora, Mattone, Celeste, Pistacchio, Perla and Nero are joined by nine new shades: Sabbia, Limone, Corallo, Borgogna, Cannella, Oltremare, Alloro, Calce and Gru. Each shade was developed by Mangiarotti following research into the brand’s historic use of colour, and is designed to work harmoniously across metal, wood and plastic.

Why it matters: The brand aims for the New Colour System to become a practical design tool, enabling seating and tables to share the same aesthetic language while retaining different forms, functions and materials.
"The palette does more than replace or update the brand’s historic colours," said Lapalma. "It rethinks them within a more coherent and flexible system, making them easier to combine: this is colour as language, far beyond decoration." — DEZEEN
